Beautiful Odisha Konark Temple

Odisha – The land of temples, nature and land of Lord Jagannath. This is also considered as one of the peace state of India. People visits Odisha to worship Lord Jagannath who is also known for his love towards its deities and people.

Konark is one of the temple after Puri Jagannath temple. It is also known as Sun Temple. It was built by Raja Narasinghs Deva-I of the Ganga Dynasty during 13th Century. This is one of the unique piece of engineering.

Sun Temple ,other name of Konark Temple is one the best and famous tourist spot in Odisha and also considered as one of the most crowded tourist spots of India.

Interesting Facts of Konark Temple :

• Konarka name came with two words : KON ” Corner” + ARKA : “Sun”
• It is situated in Puri
• Konark Temple is dedicated to God Sun
• It lies in the coastal part of Odisha
• Built during Vedic Period
• As per the archaeological, the entire temple was designed in the shape of a  colossal chariot  with seven horses and twentyfour  wheels , carrying the sun god, Surya,  across the  heavens. 

Architecture of the temple :

This design is said to be the original design of the temple :

European sailors used to call the temple as “The Black Pagoda” and they made it as one of their entry landmark while taking coastal voyage.

There is very interesting story behind the fall of Konark temple which I will disclose in mine later article. Briefly I will tell that the temple is said to lost its beauty after the death of legend Dharmapada.

How to reach Konark Temple ?

Puri is the place from which you can visit Odisha Sun Temple Konark. This spot doesn't have its own airport nor its own transport or railway station.

Hence one can reach to this temple either directly from Bhubaneswar ( Odisha Capital ) or from Puri which is near to the temple.

By Air : closest domesting airport is at Bhubaneswar and from their it is 64 km away.

By Train : Puri is the nearest railway station which is about 31 km away from the temple. Hence one can take train to puri from the capital or Khurda Station ( Odisha )

By Road : State-run buses are running from all parts of the state and is well connected to all major cities of Odisha.
