1.Rasgulla

Rasgulla is made of chenna soaked in sugar syrup , and is fondly eaten by the people of Odisha. One of the most visited place to have the best rasgulla in the state is “Pahala’’ , a place you would find on the way to Cuttack from Bhubaneswar. 

Another most famous place is the Bikalananda kar rasagulla situated in Cuttack which is famous for the Sallepur rasogullas , which is pink in colour due to the sugar syrup that is used for its making.

2. Chenna Poda

Chenna Poda has originated from Nayagarh district of Odisha. It is made out of cheese mixed with dry fruits dipped in sugar syrup , it has a nice golden brown colour which makes is quite tempting. 

Usually people of Odisha treat this as a cake which is also because of its shape and cut it on various occasion.

3.Chenna Jhilli 

It is a deep fried cottage cheese dipped in sugar syrup having a nice brown colour. Chenna Jhilli is very soft in its texture. It is best eaten hot as you can feel the juiciness, cheesiness and softness . 

Chenna Jhilli is quite famous in Nimapada a small district in Puri.

4. Rasabali

These are deep fried cheese balls dipped in thickened sweet milk. Rasabali are shaped as round flats like small pizza doughs that allows it to absorb the milk more. These are super soft and instantly melts in the mouth. 

Kendrapada a district in Odisha is famous for the most delicious rasabali.

5.Malpua

These are basically deep fried banana pancakes made with the mixture of mashed bananas , flour and cardamom. They are dipped in sugar syrup like any other sweets in Odisha before serving. 

It is also one of the delicacies that is served to Lord Jagannath.

How To Prepare Odisha Most Popular Fish Curry "Machha Besara "

Typical Odia fish dish popularly known as " Machha Besara " . It is mainly cooked in mustard sauce and very healthy curry for everyone. 

Odisha non-veg curry is very different from rest places non-veg items because of its simplicity and masala beign used while preparing. 

Today we are going to see how one can easily prepare this most popular fish curry. 












Ingredients Required : 

  • Fish – Rohu or cat fish (2 lb thin steak pieces)
  • Onion – 1 big sliced
  • Tomatoes – 2 Medium diced
  • Potatoes – 1 medium sliced (optional)
  • Mustard seeds – 50 gms about 10tbsp soaked in water for 2-3 hrs
  • Garlic – 3 cloves, Ginger – 1 inch
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp, Tumeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste, Water – 1 1/2 cup
  • Oil – about 10 tbsp
  • Dried Mango – Ambula(2) or curd (1/4 cup)
  • Coriander leaves to garnish
Preparation Steps : 


  1. Grind mustard seeds, ginger and garlic together to a fine paste and keep asid
  2. Wash the fish properly and marinate for 10 mins with 1/2 tsp chilli, pinch of turmeric and pinch of salt
  3. Put 3 tbsp of oil in a frying pan in medium heat, and fry the fish until you see gold brown on each side. 
  4. Put oil  in a separate deep bottom wide pan and heat to medium level
  5. Add sliced onion, fry until onion turned to golden colour
  6. Once you see onion turned to golden colour, add cut potatoes and tomatoes and fry it for 3-4 minutes
  7. Add turmeric, salt and chilli powder
  8. As I have mentioned in my earlier recipes also, always keep make sure onion is properly fired and not burnt. 
  9. Start adding blended mustard paste and mixed with the above frying items properly for for 5 minutes until the paste sticks to the pan and oil gets separated. 
  10. Add water and cover the pan for the water to simmer
  11. Add curd or Ambula ( dried and salted mango )  and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  12. Add fish to the pan without overcrowding, lay the fish flat in the pan.
  13. Cover the pan and let it boil for 5 mins then turn the fish to cook on the other side.

Now your dish is ready to serve !!! You can add coriander leaves and serve your family, families.

Now lets start on to the main process of preparing Moringa Leaves dish i.e. Sajana Saag. Before that friends let me tell you as I told earlier in above its benefits for diabetes patients also, hence you can conclude the ingredients that will be used are also health benefit only. 

Below is the list of ingredients that is require to prepare the dish :
  • Sajana leaves
  • Moong/mooga dali
  • Dry red chillies
  • Garlic - chopped
  • Refine oil
  • Salt, sugar
  • 1 middle size Onion
  • Turmeric powder
Process :

Step 1 : Take a pan and put water to boil the moong daal

Step 2 : Let the daal boil but don't over boiled it as you will loose the nutrients and no use to eat.

Step 3 : Take out and filter out boiled water and keep the boiled moong daal aside. 

Step 4 : Put a fry pan and let it warm. 

Step 5 : Add 2 spoon of refine oil on the hot pan. Once the oil start heating along with the pan, add chopped onion pieces, red chillies, garlic pieces ( you can also use garlic paste if you don't have garlic pieces ) and fry till the onion turn golden colour. 

Step 6 : Add 1-2 two spoon of turmeric powder and mix the items well and let it warm for another 2-3 minutes.

Step 7 : Now add drum stick leaves, mix it well with the other fried items, add salt as per your taste but I will recommend you not to add too much salt as it will kill the real taste and value of the dish.

Once you stir it will , add or sprinkle water on it and let it warm for 2-4 minutes. Why sprinkle water is because water will generate extra steam which will cook the dish quicker way. 

Step 8 : Add boiled moong daal and still the mix once again and let it cook for another 5 minutes. 

Your dish is ready and you are now only left with your creativity presentation. You can either eat it straight way or you can eat this "Sajana saag " with roti, rice or bread also.

Complete Steps To Prepare Odisha Crab Curry

You must have tasted crab recipes in different places and must have got the different taste ideas and procedures how to prepare. If you haven’t tasted Odisha famous non-veg crab curry then why not prepare it now and serve to your family and friends !!?

Well to prepare typical Odia crab curry, you first need to understand the balance of masala Odia people use in their recipes. Let me share you the complete procedures with list of steps to prepare it.

Raw Ingredients

• Fresh crabs as per your requirements

• 2 tbsp. mustard oil

• 2 tsp. turmeric powder

• 1 teaspoon salt

Marinate the cleaned crabs with above and let it for 15-20 min so that whole ingredients get inside the crabs.

Now it's time to prepare the curry for this we need below ingredients :

For the Masala preparation we need

• 2-3 large onion

• 1 medium sized tomato

• 5-6 large garlic pods

• 1 inch ginger

• 2-3 dried red chillies

• 1 tsp. cumin seeds

• 1 tsp, black peppercorns

• 2 tsp. mustard seeds

• 1 tbsp. coriander seeds

• 1 tsp. poppy seeds

• 3-4 cloves

• Cinnamon (1 inch)

Take a pan and dry roast dried red chillies, cumin seeds, black peppercorns, mustard seeds coriander seeds, cloves and cinnamon till they start to sputter and release their aromas.

Now in a grinder jar take sliced onions, tomato, garlic pods, ginger, poppy seeds and all the dry masalas and grind to a fine paste.

For the curry we need

• 1 tsp panchfootana

• 1 bay leaf

• 1 tsp garam masala

• 2 cups of hot water

• Mustard oil

• Salt to taste

Preparation :

1. Take about 4 tablespoons of mustard oil in a wok and heat till it reaches the smoking point and add the marinated crab meat. Stir-fry for 5 minutes till the crab changes colour. Remove from the crabs and keep aside.

2. In the same pan stir-fry the thickly sliced potatoes and keep aside.

3. Add bay leaves to the remaining oil, add bay leaves and panchfootana and let them sputter. Add the ground masala paste and stir-fry on a medium flame till the masala leaves oil.

4. Once the masala is fully cooked and the raw smell is gone add the fried crabs and stir-fry another 3-4 minutes.

5. Add the fried potatoes and then add 2 cups of water. Mix it all nicely and reduce the heat to low, adjust the salt, cover it and let it simmer for about 10 minutes or until it is done.

You can either keep the gravy either thick or thin as per your choice.

Once you start getting aroma with crabs smell, sprinkle the garam masala and garnish it with chopped fresh coriander.

Now our special crabs recipe is ready to be served.

You have seen small shops or stalls , giving away spicy mixtures puffed rice in most part of the city, villages , towns of India. This is called mudhi in our Odisha. 


It is one of the popular food in Odisha and it is eaten with anything starting from tea to curry.




This is also known as time-pass food where people eat while in cinemas, gardens with friends, evening time with family members, after office hours or while travelling you can see people eating it with great mood.

Mudhi has found a very important place in Odisha people food category. 
Today I am going to share your list of food that is prepared with mudhi out of this "mudhi mansa " is one of my favourite one. Mayurbhanj is the place in Odisha where you will find variety of mudhi food. I am loving it .....

Well one more reason behind this is my wife belong to Mayurbhanj. I didn't know so many variety are there for this puffed rice.

List of foods which are prepare with mudhi or puffed rice :

  • Jhaaal Mudhi : Common to all of you and you can see every part of India even outside it.

I am going to tell you my favorite one Mudhi Mansa how you can prepare.

For this you don't have to worry at all if you are a good kitchen chef and can prepare chicken curry.. you are almost done.

We need following :
  • Chicken or Mutton Curry : Make sure your curry is prepare with boneless chicken or mutton.

  • Puffed rice as per the required by members how much you can take or eat 
  • Glass of water

Once you have prepared your chicken curry or mutton curry , take out boneless pieces with the curry soup on a good size pan.

Take one pan or bowl where you can put and mixed puffed rice and above prepared chicken curry. Now start mixing it till chicken pieces get well mixed with gravy. 

Why I said water is because you can add little water so that it will become soft and also it will be easier to eat.

Today's recipe topic : How to prepare Odisha famous moong dal curry ?

Farmers rice land is dependent on these legume plants as it helps in regenerating new life to the soil and make it ready for the next farming.

Today I am going to tell you how to prepare recipe with these healthy beans. You should also learn it and serve your family because when you serve healthy food, your family is always safe and growing. 

In Odisha it is said during the month of Kartik month, Mooga Dalma also called 'Habishya Dalma' is an authentic dish of Odisha. 

It is primarily consumed by women in the said state while keeping the Habisha fast in the month of Kartik month.Therefore it become very important that almost every Odisha family prepare this delicious recipe and serve their family.

Benefits of Mung Dal :

  • High source of proteins, fiber, antioxidants and phytonutrients
  • Mung beans are a high source of nutrients including: manganese, potassium, magnesium, folate, copper, zinc and various B vitamins.
  • Resistant starch and dietary fiber.
  • Useful in defending against several chronic, age-related diseases eg. heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity.

Ingredients Needed :
  • Take 2 cup of mug dal 
  • Half cup chopped onion
  • 2-3 green well chopped chillies
  • Salt as per the taste
  • Refine oil - 2-3 tea spoon full
  • Potatoes - 2-3 which can increase as per the no. of members
  • Curry masala - 1 tea spoon full
  • Tomatoes - chopped ( 1-2 tomatoes )
  • 1/2 tea spoon full turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tea spoon full coriander powder
  • 1/2 tea spoon full jeera
Preparation Steps :
  • Put fry pan and fry the mug dal ( well cleaned with water) till it become dry and brownish. 
  • Now put curry pan on the burner and let it heat it with some amount of refine oil.
  • Add chopped onions, green chilli, jeera and fry till onion gets into brownish colour.
  • Add turmeric powder and fry for 1 min till it get turn brownish yellow or golden yellow. 
Remember : Never put everything because turmeric powder, coriander , curry masala all need to fry little so that they well mixed with the curry.

  • Add fried mug dal and potato pieces. Fry them till potatoes become little brown and soft.
  • Add chopped tomato pieces mixed well. Add salt as per the requirement and let it heat for 10-15 minutes till tomatoes get well mixed.
  • Add water till everything get filled and water lever over the fried curry. 
  • Now let the curry to boiled for 1/2 hour so that everything get well cooked.
  • Once you see potatoes totally soft, this indicates your curry is almost ready.
  • Add 1 tea spoon full of masala curry and let it cooked for 10-15 minutes. 
  • Stop the burner and your Mug Dal Curry is ready.
